What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of South Lakes Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Scripture

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. . It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world.

Revelation

God has revealed himself to us through his son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God, the holy scriptures, and through all of creation itself.

Mankind

People are made in the Spiritual image of God to be like Him in character.  People are the supreme object of God's creation. All of mankind is marred by an attitude of disobedience towards God called sin. This attitude separates people from God. Genesis 1:27, Isaiah 53:6, Romans 3:23

The Fall

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation ever since that time.

Salvation

Salvation is a free gift of God. The death of Christ on the cross is the only sufficient payment for our sins. All have sinned, but all can be saved. This salvation is available for any who put their trust in Christ as Savior and follow Him as Lord. Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, John 3:16

The Church

The church is the body of Christ on Earth empowered by the Holy Spirit to continue the task of reaching the lost and discipling the saved, helping them become fully devoted followers of Christ.
Ephesians 4:1-16

Baptism and the Lord's Supper

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in Jesus as Lord.
The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming

Resurrection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.

5 Year Vision

SOUTH LAKES WILL LEVERAGE EVERYTHING TO BUILD GOD'S KINGDOM BY DISCIPLING THE BODY OF CHRIST TO BEAR FRUIT AND PUSH BACK DARKNESS.

From 2024 to 2029, South Lakes Church is embracing a God-sized vision that extends beyond SW Oklahoma City and reaches far and wide. With the development of new neighborhoods and an influx of people from across the nation, South Lakes is wholeheartedly committing to this vision by putting their "yes" on the table. They fervently seek God's guidance and intervention, anticipating significant impact for His Kingdom as they embark on this journey.

Elder Led Leadership

Exploring the origins of the church in the book of Acts reveals a distinctive pattern—the establishment of elders. Whether this concept is unfamiliar to you or you come from a background with leadership led by elders, we invite you to spare a few moments to listen to South Lakes Church's founding Pastor Joey as he sheds light on the reasoning behind our organizational structure.

Covenant membership

Why does South Lakes make such a big deal of membership? Why does South Lakes make me take a class to even become a member? Why are they making me sign a covenant? People often ask these questions about our membership process, skeptical as to why there seems to be such an emphasis on membership.

It’s true. We take membership seriously. Committing yourself to a body of believers should always be a carefully made decision. But it’s also wonderful. When Covenant Members join, they commit to a spiritual family that provides encouragement and support. They are called to a biblical degree of responsibility, service and sacrifice to their brothers and sisters. Our elders and leaders also pledge to assist our Covenant Members with care, counsel, prayer and teaching.
